The Centre of Alternative Technology (CAT) offers solutions to some of the world's most serious challenges from climate change to pollution. Luckily for us they've now come up with ways of making our love lives a low carbon experience just in time for Valentine's Day.

Here's their top tips for a greener love life:

1. Turn down the thermostat and snuggle in bed

2. Share a shower

3. Turn off the lights and use naturally made candles

4. Use biodegradable/fair trade condoms

5. Do something meaningful together that you've never done before

6. Use natural oils and creams for a massage

7. Wear underwear made from eco-friendly materials like bamboo

8. Cook a romantic meal using only fair trade and locally sourced produce

9. Take a romantic staycation rather than going abroad

10. Send a personalised E-card
