Soil association's new report names UK as the lazy organic farmers of Europe

Feb 9, 2011
The Soil Association launched their annual conference today with a report which calls for the British government to follow Europe's example on organic farming

The Soil Association's new report, The Lazy Man of Europe shows that most of Europe normalises and champions organic food and farming as an environmentally friendly way to produce food.

The report claims that in the UK the government have been indifferent to it or even lazy.

The Soil Association say the report intends to show how and why European governments support organic farming and what the UK government could and should be doing to support the organic market.

The Lazy Man of Europe shows other leading European governments have initiatives to advance organic food production which don't need new funding, only shifts in policies and priorities.

The report's recommendations include welcoming the organic market as an area of growth for the UK economy and having government endorsed 'Food for Life Catering Marks' on seasonal, freshly prepared and organic foods.
