Make Australia's flood-prone areas no-go zones says disaster expert
Extreme weather events like the recent floods in Australia are becoming increasingly more frequent and far more devastating explains Professor of urban policy at Sydney University, Ed Blakely. He believes the floods are not freakish in fact we should assume they are going to occur because of climate change.
Professor Blakely who ran the recovery of New Orleans after hurricane Katrina suggests that Queenslanders should "retreat from the coast" to escape rising sea levels.

"It will take 60-75 years, so we have got to start now. It's very important for us to see not just this incident but the long-term trend and learn from it and plan for it."
The Master of Disaster as some people call him will be giving a keynote speech at the fourth Healthy Cities Conference on 28-29th July 2011. For more information visit healthycities.com.au
